Satellite Location for the Calgary Food Bank
Satellite locations make it easier for families who need food to pick it up in their community.
Food insecurity has been a focus for Grace for many years. The conversation is part of our commitment to the values of community and service. We also understand the need to partner with agencies in the community to serve our neighbours better.
Helping Relieve Food Insecurity
We started work on a satellite location for the Calgary Food Bank in fall 2020 to improve food distribution in the Beltline. Our work in the area helps transform lives through God’s grace and effect social change by sharing space and equipping volunteers.
We thank all the volunteers who support the Grace satellite location for the Calgary Food Bank weekly. If you would like to volunteer, let us know.
Volunteer Opportunity: Simple Laundry Soap Project Leader
Grace currently hosts a Calgary Food Bank satellite operation where clients come weekly to pick up food hampers. The Engagement & Service Committee hopes to develop a project to create laundry soap containers to hand out to hamper recipients. Laundry soap is expensive, and these containers would help families have more of their budget available for food. The Simple Laundry Soap Project Leader will organize a group of volunteers to prepare and maintain an inventory of homemade laundry soap to be packaged in containers. The containers will need to meet sustainable packaging requirements:
- washable & refillable
- non-plastic
- easy to label
- easy to fill and use
The Project Leader would help to develop Communications Packages to
- to update the congregation and raise awareness
- to educate the existing Food Bank volunteers about how to use the soap, how to return the containers, and help them to engage the recipients in conversation
